Manuka Honey

Ever since I became aware of the Manuka Honey about 8-9 years ago, I wanted to try it out. But it has always been out of reach, simply because of the price. To justify such a price for honey, one has to have way too much money or have health issues that justify trying it. Too much money has never been my problem, but with my prostate challenge I have got a perfect reason to test it. In conjunction with donation on my ko-fi donation campaign I have finally got my hands on it.

But what is Manuka Honey? It is a very good question, because it is not “just” honey. It is science, it is medicine. My initial research revealed that the quality is measured in UMF and MGO values. Everything under UMF 15+ and MGO 400 is considered good quality but not really for medicinal purpose. UMF 15+ and MGO 400 is where the medicinal properties starts to have effect. I decided to go one step up from there with the Manuka Health UMF 16+ and MGO 573. Almost 50% higher MGO quality but the price did not increase with that much. 500 gram cost me 3500 baht or about 108 USD. It should last me one month.

It is no secret I would have loved to go the whole nine yard and bought the best of the best, but several reasons held me back from doing it. The better versions I got access to here is UMF 20+ and 22+ and MGO 850 and 950 respectively. VERY potent high levels of anti bacterial, anti inflammatory and anti cancer properties. But 250 gram cost 4400 baht for UMF 20+ MGO 850 of the best brand out there, Comvita. That is 135 dollars for 14 days of treatment. Not only is it too expensive in general, but should I see good results, then I would be in a predicament, because it would compromise everything else I also need to pay 270 dollars a month for 3-6 months of honey. So, not reason to even contemplate going that expensive, because good or not, no way I can continue.

Even at 108 dollars for a month worth of treatment I am in reality paying more than I can afford as it stand right now, but at least I stand a fighting chance to cover the cost if it does turn out to be as good as I hope.
